Je suis Lucien Icard, designer indépendant, formé à l’ENSCI – Les Ateliers. Mon travail questionne nos manières de produire, de consommer et d’habiter. 

Entre auto-édition de mobilier, scénographie et recherche sur la revalorisation des matériaux, j’explore le potentiel des ressources qui nous entourent. En détournant les archétypes et les imaginaires industriels, je propose de nouvelles manières de percevoir les objets et les espaces.


Avec des artisans, des industriels et des acteurs publics, je développe des alternatives qui ouvrent des voies plus collectives, justes et responsables.&#38;nbsp;


	Mon travail a été montré, entre autre, à la Biennale du design de Saint-Étienne (Working Promess- Les mutations du travail), à la Paris Design Week (2020 et 2023), au musée Arcade: Design à la campagne (Exposition Eau) ou encore au Pavillon de l’Arsenal (Pour que tu m’aimes encore, 2024). En 2024, j’ai été lauréat du programme Création en cours des Ateliers Médicis, de la résidence La Physique Autrement, ainsi que d’une résidence-mission pour Roissy Pays de France autour du réemploi des ressources locales.

Avec une durée de vie moyenne de 15 ans pour une cuisine standard, il est essentiel d’interroger les responsabilités et les solutions de production des grands groupes industriels.


En collaboration avec les artisans apprenants du groupe ARES, nous avons développés une filière de cuisine de réemploi qui repense les chaînes industrielles du groupe Schmidt.

Le dessin des cuisines cherche à réutiliser les nombreuses meubles destinés à la déchetterie, en privilégiant une simplicité autant formelle que productive. La gamme couleurs est pensée pour accompagner la nouvelle vie des cuisines tout en s’implantant au sein des futur logements.&#38;nbsp;

L’ensemble de nos recherches a permis de lancer la production à petite échelle, en s’appuyant sur des guides pédagogiques expliquant pas à pas les étapes à suivre pour être développé dans d’autres lieux de production.

	Chaque année environ 13 millions de tonnes de déchets métalliques ferreux sont récoltés en France, créant un gisement immense de matière à réemployer. Repli est une recherche sur la revalorisation des chutes d’acier d’une entreprise partenaire pour transformer cette matière en objet domestique.

	Par le simple pliage de la tôle, les chutes se transforment en porte-manteaux pour raconter son histoire passée et révéler sa nouvelle.Conçu et fabriqué en auto-production en 35 exemplaires (pour l’instant).

Sans pression est une famille d’objets d’arrosages permettant de rendre visible et de réguler sa consommation en eau. Ces objets utilisent de nombreux principes physiques simples, comme la coupe de Pythagore, les vases communicants, le tourniquet hydraulique, pour se passer de l’eau du réseau et s’alimenter essentiellement d’eau de pluie. À la frontière entre objets pédagogiques et techniques ses dispositifs s’intègrent dans une démarche de revalorisation des ressources naturelles au sein de notre quotidien pour permettre aux utilisateur.ices de devenir acteur.ices du changement.

Récupérateur d’eau de pluie&#38;nbsp;

Après avoir identifiés le toit comme surface optimal de récolte de l’eau de pluie, je cherche à déplacer l’eau récoltée au coeur du potager pour faciliter l’arrosage manuel. En utilisant la pression exercée par la chute de 3m de haut dans un tuyau souple l’eau se déplace sur plus de 50m sans pression du réseau ni effort.

	Je développe un récupérateur d’eau de pluie se fixant sur une gouttière qui rassemble l’eau récoltée de la toiture d’une habitation individuelle. À la fois éléments symboliques et techniques se dispositifs est le point d’amorçage permettant aux utilisateur.ices de s’extraire du réseau d’eau potable et reprendre conscience de ses consommations en eau.

Une fois l’eau acheminée elle remplie une cuve au centre du jardin, ce qui permet de réduire suffisamment la distance à parcourir pour pouvoir utiliser des outils simples et économes, comme l’arrosoir pour irriguer les cultures.


Cette cuve contient une réserve tampon de 500 litres qui lisse les éventuels manques hydriques. Son volume correspond aux besoins en eau d’un jardin de 50m2 dans une région tempérée, pour une période de deux mois en plein été.En définissant une limite des stocks disponible et en le donnant à voir grâce à un système de graduation se dispositifs cherche rompre un sentiment d’infinité de la ressource en eau et génère une auto limitation de la part des utilisateur.ices qui peuvent adapter leurs usages et leurs plantations à la quantité d’eau disponible. Pour donner une indication claire du niveau d’eau, le robinet glisse le long d’une rainure en fonction du volume d’eau restant, grâce à un système flotteur à l’intérieur de la cuve.

	La cuve est pensée pour délivrer une quantité d’eau définie qui correspond au volume de l’arrosoir. Son remplissage est donc simplifié : on vient poser l’arrosoir sur le robinet, ce qui déclenche l’arrivée d’eau

	Comment permettre aux résidences étudiantes de proposer un mobilier abordable, ergonomique et adaptables au sein de leurs logements ?
Mené en collaboration avec le groupe Réside Études, une analyse des besoins des résidences à permis d’identifier et de co-concevoir une stratégie leur permettant d’anticiper les besoins de leurs logements à l’aide d’un logiciel de configuration d’espace et d’une gamme de mobilier répondant aux contraintes des différents typologies d’appartements.

Pour s’adapter à chaque espace les étagères 
sont dessinées pour s’assembler dans leurs longueurs à la demande. Répondant ainsi aux contraintes de chaque appartement, mais aussi aux espaces collectifs.&#38;nbsp;

	Le lit deux places utilise un système de croisement de lattes amovibles pour devenir un canapé convertible. L’ensemble du lit est dimensionné pour accueillir les caisses de rangements.

	L’espace bureau est pensé pour être déplaçable facilement avec un système de plateau supporté par deux tréteaux. La gestion des câbles est assurée par de simples interventions sur le plateau. &#38;nbsp;

Dans le cadre d’une collaboration pour les Ateliers Emmaüs, j’imagine une horloge réalisé en chutes de bois industriels dans les ateliers à Villeurbanne par des artisans apprenants en réinsertions professionnels. 


L’objet est pensé comme un réel support de transmission d’une histoire, qui lie engagement social, apprentissage et démarche responsable.

Le dessin retrace la silhouette archétypale de l’horloge en se déportant légèrement pour accueillir le système d’accroche sur le haut du cadran. D’un tel pas de côté, le dessin se déploie sur une forme simple et lisible tout en gardant une place centrale au crochet.&#38;nbsp;

	Lorsque l’on se rend en famille dans un hôtel, les codes établis dans le cadre domestique changent. Toute la famille partage les mêmes objets et les mêmes temporalités durant leur séjour mais les objets au sein de la chambre d’hôtel ne sont pas adaptés aux enfants.


Je propose donc de créer une expérience propice à l’évolution des enfants en créant une gamme d’objets leur permettant de faire comme les grands.

	Je reprend l’archétype du porte manteaux pour relier symboliquement l’adulte et l’enfant invitant les deux parties à poser leurs affaires sur la même patère.&#38;nbsp;

Au lieu d’abaisser les éléments je propose de faire monter les enfants avec un marche pied pour leurs faire gagner en autonomie.&#38;nbsp; Le dessin joue de la question du transport de l’objet qui se veut léger et transportable.&#38;nbsp;

Je propose une lampe nomade quiaccompagne les usagers dans leurs déplacement au sein de la chambre d’hôtel la nuit.&#38;nbsp;


Le dessin accentue et caricature la prise en main, comme un élément rassurant qui pourrait être serré fort au creux d’une main pendant le parcours des enfants.
